Upon the relaunch, I will be making FREE membership for ages 16 & under a permanent feature of the club - the promotional offer proved so successful that I felt it should become a full-time addition to BIRO BUDDIES' many plus points!

BIRO BUDDIES will also be strictly LADIES ONLY - so many existing members have requested this that I am acting upon popular demand and personal experiences of late have also led me to make this decision!

Your patience is very much appreciated and although I have some hard work ahead in completing revamping the club, I hope you will hang on in there and stick with me ... I'm really excited by this and hope you will be too!!

Welcome to BIRO BUDDIES!

You've just found a fab website dedicated to the art of penpalling - whether you're new to it all and not sure where to start, or an experienced penpaller looking for new people to write to, BIRO BUDDIES is on hand to help...

I'm Lisa (you can view my mugshot on the comments below if you're curious! Or click on my photo to read my profile) and I'm the brains (hmmm .. not sure that's quite the word for me!!) behind the club. I toyed with the idea of setting up a club of my own for some time before I went full steam ahead with it, and I've been really taken back at just how successful it has proved to be with everyone - if you are wanting to know more please click the 'about the club' link found in the top left corner.

Due to the site being virtually wiped once out at the hands of someone else, I have sadly had to take the decision to make it a now restricted zone where only invited people will be allowed to make contributions to the site if they wish to do so - whilst I am sorry about this, I will NOT allow some ignorant so and so to wreck what I have worked hard to create for a second time, so there really was no alternative. However, anyone will be able to leave comments but anything offensive or abusive will be removed by my fair hands quicksmart and, if the culprit is a registered user, they will be blocked from returning to our site - if they are an anonymous user then their entries will just keep on being deleted until they get the message or get bored - whichever happens first!

So, hands up who has had penpals in the past? Keep those hands up if they dwindled off after a few letters? Annoying, isn't it?! Like the best of you, I have had that happen too - I also had lots of penpals as a teenager, but as I got older (eeek but it happens to us all!) they kind of dried up and I found myself on the receiving end of nothing but an endless stream of bills and junk mail! I managed to find a couple of "e-pals" and whilst emails are great fun and quick, you simply can't beat a proper, handwritten letter in the post!

I tried searching the web myself for new penpals, but there isn't really anywhere any good or that aren't dating agencies in disguise that land a subscription fee on you before you know it! Taking all this into account, I started to think I could probably make a better attempt of it myself - and so that was the start of what you now know as BIRO BUDDIES.

It's my aim to create a club for people wanting good old-fashioned penpals to exchange fun, friendly and chatty letters with - from people around the globe, hearing about their lives and interests, hopefully finding some really good new friends through letters! Sounds good? There is a small fee required to join and this varies depending on where you live - all the information is on the application form which you can download by following the links found at the top left of this page - the UK applicants one is there, and by clicking that you will discover the Non-UK one too.

Interest in the club has been fantastic, so I will process your application as soon as I can, but please allow upto 28 days to hear back from me once you have sent back the form.

NOW FOR THE BORING BIT....

I reserve the right to refuse any application I consider to be unsuitable. Any such application will be rejected and destroyed immediately with no refund of stamps given.

This is in no way a dating service or introduction agency, merely a penpal service, so if you are looking for more than just a penpal then please - I repeat politely - please DO NOT apply. We are relaunching as a strictly LADIES ONLY club in the near future, so any ladies wanting male penpals will be disappointed as I will not be having male members.

It is entirely at your own risk if you decide to meet with anyone you are given details of - but please, be careful, and if you do arrange a meet, do so in a public place and be sure to let someone, be it a family member or friend, know exactly where you are and what you are doing there. I am not responsible at all for any decision you make after receiving details of your new penpals.

You must join the club to find penpals, you will not find details of any members listed on here for their own safety - upon joining, I personally assess your membership form and will match you with penpals who are best suited to you from the answers you have supplied on your application form. You will then be sent a list with your new penpals details on and it is then down to you to contact them and introduce yourself.

You are not permitted to leave your contact details on the site in the hope that people will contact you direct - anyone found to be doing this will have their messages removed and deleted. I have received a number of complaints from members that people are just browsing in and leaving messages for them in reply to their comments asking them to be penpals - please do not do this as it goes beyond the club rules. Contact should be through snail mail upon joining and receiving your penpals details. There is no point in me working hard to provide this service if people are just going to breeze in and attempt to contact members direct by email and trying to bypass becoming a member of Biro Buddies. Sorry if this sounds abrupt and harsh but I am acting on complaints from existing members who have asked me to try and stop this happening. Any messages found to be doing this will also be removed and deleted. This also applies to messages giving contact details left in the Guest Book.

How does the club work? It's quite easy really, you complete a simple and quick application form and send that to me and from there, I will search the Biro Buddies database and match you with penpals best suited to you.

Why is there a fee required to join? Simply because to run the club, it costs me in postage and administration costs. I have kept this fee to an absolute minimum, and think it represents good value for money as you do actually receive 2 stamps back as a thank you for joining.

For overseas members, the £2.00 (2 UK Pounds) is the nearest I could get to the cost of a book of stamps that is asked for from UK Members, although there is an alternative option of sending decorative stationery which is proving to be very popular.

Why can't I view details of penpals on here? This question has been asked a few times now and it's really just for people's safety that I won't put their personal details up on here for all to see. The only way you can find penpals is to join the club, I will then find you suitable penpals and send you their details through the post. If you are looking for a site where you can post your details for people to see and reply to you, then this is not it. If anyone is found to leave a message on this site in the hope that people will contact them direct, it will be removed and deleted - this also applies to messages left in the guest book.

I have infact received complaints from existing members that people have just breezed in and tried to contact them direct by leaving replies to their comments on here, which is not permitted - there is no point in me working hard to provide this service if people are just going to pass through and try to contact people direct thus bypassing joining and becoming a member. I apologise if this sounds harsh but I am acting on complaints from members. I can, however, recommend www.penpalsnow.com as quite a good site if you are looking for people wanting penpals where you can contact them direct via email.
